Okay, it's ready at last! BrokeAss Games is proud to announce the release of
Ecstasy: Early Adopter Edition, which as I mentioned in my
blog from a few days ago, is selling at a special price - for Garage Gamers - of only
$99.99!! Just go to our site,
www.ecstasymotion.com, register as a user (if you don't get your email at this point, tell us and we'll set you up by hand, sorry about that!), and hit the "Purchase Now" button!
Keep in mind, of course, that this
is the Early Adopter Edition you have in your hands - it will still have a few bugs here and there, but it does work, and we're
very excited to start getting input from our first group of users! We look forward to your feedback and suggestions as to how we can make the final 1.0 version of Ecstasy as powerful as it can possibly be!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVbkB4FmsdsDid I mention Ecstasy easily exports bvh animations to Second Life? It's hard to believe it's already been a year since I started working with the BrokeAss guys, but I've been continually impressed by the meticulously thorough, do-it-right-the-first-time approach they take to everything they do. As an example, while many software companies are content to release their software as a simple install, and then expect their users to keep up to date by downloading patches all the time, the guys at BAG went one up from that, and wrote their own SVN-based client launcher/patcher program, which checks for and automatically receives updates
every time the user launches the program! If you are publishing your own game or any other major software project, I highly recommend keeping your eye on BrokeAss Games, because this launcher/patcher system is going to come out for general retail to the indie market, just as soon as we iron out the bugs on the Ecstasy launch!
Which was a somewhat long-winded way to say: Our deployment system, while cool as all get-out, is also fresh out of the starting gate, so please follow all instructions to the letter and be patient. Once it's up and running, you'll be kept up to date with everything that gets added to Ecstasy. First instruction: you need to have version 2.0 of the .NET framework from Microsoft installed before our launcher can even start your download!
How cool is that? It's the installer that keeps on giving! When you purchase the program, you will get an email from Intelli-Protector, our IP guardian-of-choice, with a long license code. Simply paste this in when asked, the first time you try to run the program, and you should be good to go from that point on.
The first time the launcher comes up, you need to hit the "Download/Install" button, the fourth one down. That will start an SVN checkout -- be patient here, it's not a big program but it will take a few minutes, don't touch anything till it's done. After you get the "download completed" prompt, make sure you followed the initial instructions at the top - you need to install the latest DirectX 9 and PhysX system software, or it will crash immediately - but if all goes smoothly, you should be able to hit "Launch Application" and be in there banging around before you can say "Wow, T3D is awesome!"
